The Flash with Firelight.

Canon 5D Mark II & 24-70 @ 30mm, F-2.8, S-1/30s, ISO-1600 in Manual Mode, ( NO FLASH )

Photo shoot of fire light is so difficult. Need of fast lens like 2.8, 1.8, high ISO. But you do not get result. Very high ISO give you unwanted noise. Fire light require long exposure/low shutter speed. But result is blurring. Above Image is example of shoot. result is not proper.

A Flash in mini Softbox with covered gelled can cure that problem. Below shot are an example.

Canon 5D Mark II & 24-70 @ 30mm, F- 2.8, S-1/40s, ISO-1000 in Manual Mode, Flash Setting 1/128.

For this shot i use flash Canon speedlight 580 EX II. My Flash always off camera. I controlled flash with infrared receiver Canon ST-E2, I covered flash with some plastic gel & arrange in mini softbox. It’s set up near firelight. It’s set to a low power output 1/128. Flash in Manual mode. you can see difference of image’s.

We can use Flash many time. Off camera flash give superb result in low light Photography.

I agree with mixing flash with ambient light, especially in low light. One can get a sharp photo.

Agree on use of flash, but its a catch situation, the harsh shadows that it creates need to be controlled to get right effect.
